Home Library Service
When City of Adelaide residents are no longer able to attend the library in person, our Home Library Service can keep you connected by bringing the library’s collection to your door.
If you, or somebody you know, can’t physically get to one of our libraries and are a resident of the City of Adelaide, don’t worry, our Home Library Service offers an alternative. Using a dedicated team of staff and volunteers, this free personalised service hand-picks items to be delivered to your residence every month.
This program is eligible to City of Adelaide residents who cannot physically attend the library or who cannot physically carry library items home due to short-term or long-term circumstances. This includes:
- Illness
- Frailty
- Disability
- A caring role that restricts library attendance
- Aged care facilities
Our staff and volunteers will coordinate deliveries to homes and aged care facilities on a designated day each month. To ensure that the Home Library Service is tailored to your specific needs, users have the option to choose between selecting their own materials, or having staff and volunteers select for them.
Customers who would like their selections to be done through library staff and volunteers will have a curated delivery based on their reading, viewing, and listening interests. Our Home Library customers have access to a huge range of materials, so whether you’re after romance, mystery, history, biographies, true crime, or fantasy, there’s something to appeal to everyone.
Customers who select their own materials can do so using our catalogue, where they will be reserved at our City Library branch and delivered to you once a month.
As a Home Library customer, you will have access to materials from across the South Australian Public Library Network. This includes:
- Books
- Magazines
- Audiobooks
- Large print books
- CDs
- DVDs and Blu-rays
We also have a wide range of online resources including eBooks, audiobooks, movies, and music. Head to our Virtual Library to find out more.
If you are eligible and this sounds like a service from which you or someone you know could benefit, contact our friendly library team to set up an interview and start receiving deliveries.
