Illegally parked vehicles

City of Adelaide Parking and Information Officers patrol Adelaide and North Adelaide streets to ensure parking conditions are being complied with and to provide fair access to on-street parking.

Illegally parked vehicles can be a public safety issue.

If you see an illegally parked vehicle, you can report it for us to investigate.

Important information about illegally parked vehicles

  • The City of Adelaide is unable to investigate reports of illegal parking that are:
    • outside the City of Adelaide boundaries (postcodes 5000 and 5006)
    • on private property, including private laneways.

How to report an illegally parked vehicle

If an illegally parked vehicle is a safety risk to the public, please call us as soon as possible on (08) 8203 7203.

City of Adelaide encourages you to report illegal parking as soon as you see it.

The best ways to report an illegally parked vehicle during business hours, 8:30 am to 5:00 pm Monday to Friday, are:

  1. using our online report an illegally parked vehicle form
  2. calling the Customer Centre on (08) 8203 7203
  3. in person at our Customer Centre

Outside business hours

For any emergency issues outside business hours, contact SA Police on 131 444.

For any other issues between 5:00 pm and midnight weekdays, and from 8:00 am to midnight on weekends, it is best to call (08) 8203 7203.

At other times you can report an illegally parked vehicle using our online form.

What we need to know

To investigate reports of illegally parked vehicles we need:

  • full address or detailed location of the vehicle
  • the vehicle's registration number
  • details of any signage at the location
  • photos of the vehicle
  • any other relevant information, such as 
    • make, model and colour of the vehicle
    • how long the vehicle has been at the location

In case we need more information we will also collect your:

  • name
  • email address
  • phone number.

What happens next

We aim to investigate reports received during business hours within two hours.

Reports received after 5:00 pm Monday to Friday may not be investigated until the morning of the next business day.

Reports are prioritised by considering:

  • whether the vehicle is a potential hazard
  • where our Parking and Information Officers are at the time of the report
  • how long the vehicle can legally park.
We are unable to tell you the outcome of your report due to privacy reasons.
