Motorcycle parking
Motorcycles and scooters play an important role in supporting Adelaide’s liveability by reducing traffic congestion and travel time for all road users.
A space-saving, convenient alternative to private cars, motorcycles and scooters are well-suited to the city landscape. They also provide an economical option for their riders, saving on more than just petrol.
On-street parking
Within the CBD and in North Adelaide you’ll find over 1,000 free on-street parking spaces designated specifically for motorcycles and scooters. Some on-street locations such as Hindmarsh Square and Kintore Avenue are timed, and subject to change at any time. It's always important to check the signs and understand them before leaving the area, as parking controls may change for a variety of reasons.
Motorcycle and scooters may also be parked in any ticketed or timed parking bays. If using a paid bay, the required fee must be paid. A ticket can be purchased from a Pay by Plate ticket machine or online through the UPark app.
Remember: stay within the confines of the allocated space and have one wheel as close as practical to the kerb. Read the signs as costs and time limits may apply.
Free parking on footpaths
The City of Adelaide has created eight designated footpath areas across the city where motorcycles and scooters may be parked free. Just look for the signage and line marking which shows the permitted parking areas. Refer to the map below for the designated areas.
Footpath parking frequently asked questions

Motorcycle and scooter riders can only park in the designated footpath areas. Signs show the area where you can park your motorcycle. Any motorcycle or scooter parked outside of the designated footpath area may be issued an expiation in accordance with Australian Road Rule regulation 197.
