Join a library

You can register now for library membership through our online catalogue, which even allows you to place holds on up to five items and access the Virtual Library before you come in to complete the registration.

It’s easy to register for full membership. All you need is identification with your name, current address, date of birth and signature. If you are under 18 years of age you will need to be registered by a parent or legal guardian over 18 using your Medicare card or passport.

Please note: by joining our libraries, you agree to the City Libraries membership use and benefits.
Our extended Conditions of Entry can be found with each of our library locations.

Connect

City Libraries are free to join. Your membership card connects you to over 3 million items across 130 public libraries in South Australia via the One Card Network. You can collect or return most items to any library within the network. Our Library of Things items must be returned to City of Adelaide Library, North Terrace. You can also use equipment such as computers, photocopiers and printers when you visit us and access music, films and more anytime on our Virtual Library.

If you can’t physically get to one of our libraries, don’t worry, our Home Library Service will keep you connected. This is a dedicated program for City of Adelaide residents who can no longer visit the library or carry items home due to long or short term illness, frailty, disability, or their caring role restricting them from getting to the library. Library staff coordinate the service and friendly and skilled volunteers deliver to your door! Contact your closest library for details.

Our libraries are places for people to connect with one another on their lifelong learning journey. Our libraries are accessible and inclusive to all, so bring your friends, join one of our book clubs, attend a library program, learn a new skill with a volunteer, volunteer yourself, or let the kids connect through our school holiday activities and year round events.
