Friday Night Live, a City of Adelaide initiative that will bring city venues and streets alive with live music.

As part of Reignite Adelaide, the City of Adelaide has provided an additional $90,000 to fund venues through the Friday Night Live initiative. Friday Night Live will contribute to the Adelaide Unleashed program to activate and attract visitor back to the City. The program will provide opportunities for musicians to perform at, and partner with businesses, to revitalise and sustain a strong live music presence in the city as we continue to recover from the impacts of COVID-19.

Please note, the provision of these additional funds means that the Friday Night Live program will be extended from the original end date of the 19th of May, until the new end date 19th of August 2022. These funds will be available to apply for in two categories as detailed below.

  • New: Venues that did NOT receive any funding from Round 1 of Friday Night Live. New applicants can apply for up to $6,000 of matched funding. Applications will be assessed as Quick Response grants, with notification of outcomes occurring within 10 business days.
  • Existing: Venues that did receive funding through Round 1 of Friday Night Live. Existing applicants can apply for an additional $2,000 of matched funding to go towards the continued success of the Friday Night Live Program. Applications must be able to show effective use of current funds as well as additional funding.

Friday Night Live is jointly funded by the City of Adelaide and the State Government of South Australia.

Frequently Asked Questions

We are seeking applications from Adelaide City (5000) or North Adelaide (5006) businesses who are not currently hosting live music, or who have reduced the amount of live music programming due to the impacts of COVID-19.

If your business is already programming live music on Friday nights we would like to see a commitment within your application to extend your Friday night live music offering, or extend your live music programming to an additional time or night in addition to Friday nights.

City businesses are encouraged to host musicians in-house (inside the venue or on street) on Friday nights.

New music events or activities such as acoustic musicians, bands, pub choirs, or a regular dinner night for a particular niche or genre of music i.e. pasta and crooners are examples of the eligible activity.

Funding can be provided for:

  • Artist / musician fees - the Friday Night Live Incentive Scheme requires that all artists and musicians involved in the supported music programs be paid for their time. The minimum rates of pay for musicians set out by the Live Performance Award 2010 can be found here.
  • Purchase of sound or lighting equipment to facilitate live music performances at your venue
  • Dedicated sound and lighting technician costs if required

Matched funds of up to $6,000 (ex GST) will be offered.

Applicants are required to demonstrate matched funding or in-kind support of the requested amount. This can be indicated in the budget template.

Examples of matched funding include funds intended for payment of staff, purchase of music/event related equipment, continuation of the event/performances beyond the City of Adelaide seed funding.
