Multi-purpose rooms and spaces available for hire for your next gathering

Adelaide City Libraries are multi-purpose areas with infinite possibilities. In addition to the many activities and events we host, you are welcome to hire our spaces for your own private use.

City Library

The City Library, located in Francis Street just off Rundle Mall is largely open plan and features several purpose built areas such as the Media Lab. Wireless internet is available throughout the library.

Meeting rooms One and Two are general purpose rooms available to book online, a minimum of 5 business days in advance.

The other spaces below may also be booked for meetings or activities. Please contact us if you are interested in booking one of these spaces.

City library layout

Both Meeting Room One and Meeting Room Two are approximately 25 m2 each. They each have a seating capacity for up to 10 people and have LCD screens with data points.

The rooms are separated by moveable walls, which can be removed to create one large meeting space. The combined area is approximately 50 m2 and in seminar mode seats up to 40 people.

All fees and charges for the use of the Centre including room hire and equipment are reviewed and set annually by Council and all fees are set in line with the running costs of the Centre. Fees will apply if a hirer has requested a City Library space and is charging participants.

Studio One is a high- tech space with a wet area, projection facilities and moveable walls. It can function as a traditional meeting room or open up to create an exhibition space or amphitheatre.

  • Walls open up to amphitheatre for 80 people
  • Facilities: Hand basin, sink, coffee machine, projection facilities, picture rails, whiteboard walls.

A low-tech space for a diverse range of residencies, exhibitions or workshops.

  • Seating capacity up to 10 people
  • Facilities: Sink, pin board, power supply.

Our Outdoor Room is a place of reflection, with views from the hills to the ocean with the city skyline in between.

  • Approximately 35 m2
  • Café style seating with tables for up to 18 people. Can accommodate 40 people standing
  • Facilities: Café style tables and chairs, heating, cooling.

Usually a place of discovery, the Digital Hub is ideal when participants require access to technology.

Featuring the latest technology for media production the Media Lab is great when audio-visual presentations are required.

  • Seating capacity up to 8 people
  • Facilities: LCD screen, 2 Apple Macs, printer for desktop publishing, tables, chairs, mobile benches, pin board. See the Media Lab page for more information.

A place of creation, the Innovation Lab is great for small group meetings.

  • Facilities: Data points, tables, chairs, mobile benches, three 3D printers, one laser scanner, two PCs and one laptop. See Innovation Lab page for full details.

Several Garden Spaces are available for workshops and demonstrations.

Planter boxes are located in the outdoor area, along the balcony facing Rundle Mall and a few locations inside the library.

There is also a multi-purpose area approximately 50 m2, with a seating capacity of up to 70 people, 80 if standing. Facilities available include water, sink, instant filtered hot and cold water, bench, café style benches and chairs.

Art and artefacts can be hung, placed or projected in a number of places around the library with prior permission, where there are picture rails and shelving.

Hutt Street library

The Hutt Street library is located at 235 Hutt Street. It has two rooms for hire, the Conference room and the smaller Meeting room.

Both rooms are on the first floor, and are accessible via a lift. Both rooms have access to a kitchenette. Any crockery/cutlery used must be washed, dried and put away at the end of the hire period.

For your convenience, wireless internet is available throughout the library.

Hutt Street Library Floor Plan

The Hutt Street conference room can cater for a diverse range of events including professional presentations, yoga classes, craft groups, art classes and workshops.

  • Area: 35 m2
  • Seats 20 in theatre style and 16 boardroom style.
  • Facilities: Equipped with 86” TV screen with HDMI input source, speakers, electronic whiteboard, fold-up tables and stackable chairs.

This meeting room is ideal for smaller meetings and workshops.

  • Facilities: Whiteboard, fold-up tables and chairs.

Make a booking

Use our Meeting Room Request Form to request online. To identify which hire category you fall into use the Room Booking Category Chart.

Rooms and spaces are available on a regular basis, or for one-off or short-term use. Fees may apply, and use is subject to terms and conditions. Please note that all booking requests must be made at least five business days before the area is required.

Recurring bookings
Recurring requests of the Centre by a Hirer must be approved by Council on an individual basis. Hire fees and insurance requirements for regular and ongoing users are to be set by Council in negotiation with each group. To ensure fair and equitable use of the facilities, recurring bookings may only be made 3 months in advance and must be limited to a maximum of 1 booking per week, 4 hours total, unless otherwise approved by Council.
