Photo library
Archival photographs in the City of Adelaide Photo Library date from 1860. The bulk of the collection, however, is from around the turn of the century to the 1970s. They include views of city streets and buildings, parks and people, and various civic events such as Royal visits and Mayoral garden parties.
Memorable collections
There are three main photo collections held by the Archives.
The Historical Picture Collection features about 1800 images, gathered together by the former Commercial Department during the 1970s.
The Lantern Slide Collection was assembled by Town Clerk A.J. Morison in the 1920s and 30s.
In the Commercial Department Photographic Collection, you’ll also find a collection of engineering photos, civic events, personalities and developments from the 1950s to 1970s.
