Rundle Mall vehicle access permit - terms & conditions

Pursuant to Section 37A (4) of the City of Adelaide Act 1998

Rundle Mall Vehicle Access Permits are issued to enable access for vehicles dispatching goods and services to and from retailers and businesses in Rundle Mall which have no other access points.

Access times

Effective Monday 8 June 2020, no vehicles are permitted in Rundle Mall between the following hours:

Monday to Thursday 9:00 am to 6:00 pm
Friday9:00 am to 9:15 pm
Saturday9:00 am to 5:00 pm
Sunday9:00 am to 5:00 pm

Rundle Mall Vehicle Access Permits are not ‘parking permits’ and allow vehicles to remain standing in the Mall for no more than 30 minutes at any time for the purposes of unloading or loading of goods to businesses in the Mall only.

To avoid unnecessary obstructions to vehicle movements, the time a vehicle remains in the Mall must be kept to a minimum to ensure the safety and convenience of all Mall users.

Please note the following:

  • entrance into Rundle Mall is only via a left-hand turn from King William Street
  • vehicles may only proceed in an easterly direction and must only exit via Pulteney Street
  • no U Turns are allowed on Rundle Mall.

Vehicles must not be parked in such a manner as to block the thoroughfare or access to any of the side streets leading into or out of the Mall.

Drivers must at all times comply with a vehicle speed limit of 10 Km/h.

At all times, drivers of vehicles must comply with the directions of an Authorised Officer of Council or a Police Officer.

If the Mall or any equipment, furniture or fittings within the Mall or any premises abutting or adjacent to the Mall are damaged by any vehicle referred to in the permit, the owner and driver of such vehicle shall be liable for the cost of repairing such damage and for the value of any property which has been damaged.

If you are a current Permit holder, Permits must be displayed on the passenger side windscreen of the vehicle and be clearly visible at all times. Failure to display these may lead to the issue of a parking infringement notice by the City of Adelaide.

In circumstances where a vehicle is sold or no longer used for services in the Mall and another vehicle is used, the City of Adelaide must be notified to arrange for the alternative vehicle to be registered for access. Upon presentation of the decal from the previous vehicle, a new decal will be issued under the permit and records will be amended accordingly.

Vehicles not complying with these Terms and Conditions may be reported to City of Adelaide for expiation and may have their Permit revoked.

These Terms and Conditions are subject to change.

Operating the bollards

Operation of the bollards is by swipe card or keypad code – the same card or code will operate all bollards. Each site has a keypad on the street side of the bollard to lower the bollards, and a keypad on the Mall side of the bollard to raise the bollards. These keypads are labelled UP and DOWN.

Follow this step-by-step guide to using the swipe card to move the bollards in Rundle Mall.
