New grants to support creatives within our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community
The City of Adelaide and Arts South Australia are excited to launch the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Professional Development (Public Art) Grants.
The grants are funded by the City of Adelaide and Arts South Australia to facilitate and increase participation and input from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander creatives in the city.
This new funding program supports professional development opportunities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists, artisans and creatives in Public Art through mentorships, fellowships, internships, and placements that demonstrate professional developmental content.
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander creatives at any stage of their career based in South Australia, as well as South Australian organisations applying for an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander specific professional development opportunity, are encouraged to apply for up to $20,000.
City of Adelaide’s Public Art Action Plan 2019-2022 and the State Government’s Arts and Culture Plan 2019-2024 both highlight a commitment to reconciliation and the importance of supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander arts and cultural practice.
Lord Mayor Sandy Verschoor said it was all about making it easier for our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander creative community to become more involved in life within the city.
“These grants will help grow the confidence and extend the experience and skills of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists, artisans and creatives."
“They will support career advancement, increase participation, visibility, and representation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in city life.”
Jennifer Layther, Director of Arts South Australia, said that, “In South Australia we are privileged to be home to a comprehensive range of diverse and creative art practices across Aboriginal communities. Our goal is to continue to champion and celebrate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander arts and culture, and assist new and emerging artists to engage in innovative arts practice relevant to their life experiences.”
Applications are open until 5 May 2021. For more information visit City of Adelaide Website.
