CEO Clare Mockler to depart council

The content of this media release is over six months old and may no longer be current.

Chief Executive Officer Clare Mockler has announced her resignation from the City of Adelaide, effective from close-of-business today, Wednesday, 13 December 2023.

Clare is departing for family reasons and will be returning to the UK to support her elderly mother.

Clare has had an extraordinary career in local government, serving the City of Adelaide for more than 20 years and rising to lead the Council for the past 2½ years.

She has been an exemplary leader with unrivalled experience and corporate knowledge.

Her successes include delivering balanced budgets, sustainable finances and a series of important initiatives as the city has emerged and recovered from the effects of COVID. Her legacy is a higher performing, more strategic organisation.

On a personal note, I thank Clare for her generosity and support since I have returned to the role of Lord Mayor. I wish her the very best in the next phase of her career.

City of Adelaide’s Chief Operating Officer, Michael Sedgman, will take on the role of Acting CEO, effective from close-of-business today. Michael has a wealth of local government experience at a senior executive level.

We will commence a comprehensive, Australia-wide search for a new CEO early in the new year, with the aim of filling the position by mid-2024. One of our initial tasks will be to decide members of the selection panel.

Jane Lomax-Smith

Lord Mayor
