Bigger Bang for New Year's Eve

The content of this media release is over six months old and may no longer be current.

Prepare to be amazed with the free New Year’s Eve fireworks shows in the City of Adelaide set to be bigger and better this year.

Preparations are well underway for the free, family-friendly festival “Light Up” in Rymill Park / Murlawirrapurka, near the corner of East Terrace and Rundle Road, which will feature two fireworks shows at 9:30pm and midnight. There will also be a fireworks show launched from Park 10 / Warnpangga in North Adelaide when the clock strikes 12.

With the scheduled drone show unable to occur following an investigation into Perth’s November “City of Light” event, which saw some drones malfunction, Council has put more funds and resources towards additional fireworks.

Lord Mayor Jane Lomax-Smith is looking forward to celebrating the year with extraordinary sky shows in the city.

“The fireworks will be bigger, better and bursting into the sky, with entertainment also on the ground across the city and North Adelaide,” said the Lord Mayor.

“Capacity at “Light Up” presented by Gluttony has been increased this year, so more families can come into the city and enjoy this free festival.

“The team at Gluttony know how to throw a party and are preparing celebrations to ring in the New Year with a wide range of entertainment, food and drink options.”

In addition to the increased fireworks display, “Light Up” will include expanded entertainment zones with multiple stages and roving performers, as well as more food offerings, pop up bars and interactive activities for the whole family.

Free tickets for the City of Adelaide’s New Year’s Eve celebration “Light Up” at Rymill Park / Murlawirrapurka are now available via Moshtix.

There will also be four “Midnight Moments” locations across the city and North Adelaide for those who want a party atmosphere.

Each will provide memorable dining and hospitality experiences, with roads closed to traffic to allow for live music and unique street parties.

Booking ahead is recommended through the individual host venues:

  • Multiple venues on Rundle Street including a 1920s themed party at NOLA
  • The Lion Hotel on Jerningham Street with drinks and dinner packages, live music and fireworks
  • Eleven on Waymouth Street with restaurant packages, an open-air bar and live entertainment
