Area Councillor supplementary election

The content of this media release is over six months old and may no longer be current.

The City of Adelaide will hold a supplementary election following the recent departure of Area Councillor Robert Simms.

The enrolment period is now open and will close at 5.00 pm on Friday, 30 April 2021.

Nominations for candidates open Thursday, 27 May and close at midday Thursday, 10 June.

Voting material will be sent out to those registered between 6 – 12 July, with voting closing at midday Monday, 26 July.

Residents, businesses and property owners are encouraged to visit the City of Adelaide website and check or register their details online. You must have a City of Adelaide voting entitlement to vote in the upcoming supplementary election.

All city and North Adelaide residents, businesses and property owners will receive ballot packs for this election.

Any person with a voting entitlement in the City of Adelaide area may nominate to stand as a candidate in the election.

Lord Mayor Sandy Verschoor said it is just as crucial for people to vote in a supplementary election as in a full election.

“As the city grows out of the impacts of COVID-19, it’s incredibly important for people to have a say on who they want making decisions about Adelaide’s future,” said the Lord Mayor.

“At the same time, I’m calling for people who want to make a difference to the future of the city to consider running for Area Councillor.

“If you’ve been waiting for the opportunity to become a strong voice for local residents and business owners, that opportunity has now arrived.”

Residents who are already enrolled to vote for State and Federal elections will be automatically enrolled for this election. If not, residents living in a property in the City of Adelaide area are able to enrol either through the Electoral Commission of South Australia (Australian Citizens), or through Council (non-Australian Citizens).
