Picture Adelaide And Tell Us Your Story

The content of this media release is over six months old and may no longer be current.

City of Adelaide is collecting stories from the community about the city, Park Lands and North Adelaide as it starts its planning for the future.

Picture Adelaide 2040 builds on the successful Picture Adelaide campaign which in 2011, asked the community to tell Council what they loved about the city of Adelaide, what they would like to see improved, and what they would like to see created.

The project received over 3,000 responses and the feedback was used to develop the City of Adelaide’s Strategic Plan 2012-16, One City, Many Places.

City of Adelaide CEO Peter Smith said Picture Adelaide 2040 was about reflecting what the community wants for the city’s future. It will be used to develop important plans for the city.

“We are asking the community to share with us their stories about the city, Park Lands and North Adelaide as we start planning for the future. We’re hoping to collect 1000 stories of Adelaide in 30 days, starting on Thursday 21 August.

“Stories can be written with a photo attached, or uploaded onto the website as video or audio. We want to hear about what makes this city special to people and better understand their connection to it.”

Information gained through Picture Adelaide 2040 will inform the Adelaide 2040 plan, the Park Lands Strategy, District Planning and Adelaide City Planning Strategy. One effort from a community member can be captured in four different major planning projects.

Throughout the 30 days, rewards will be given to those who send in stories as milestones are reached. These include contributing to a time capsule, an invitation to a Story Slam story and poetry sharing session, and building a herb garden in Bonython Park.

Visitors to the website will be able to view other people’s submissions.

“Look out for stories popping up around the city too,” Peter said.

“We have a chalk artist who will be scribing some of the stories on the CBD footpaths. And don’t forget to tell all your friends and family, we want to hear from as many people as possible. We also have some other fun activities planned throughout the month so keep an eye on the website.

“This is the next stage in our ongoing conversation with the community about the city’s future. There will be even more opportunities to get involved later in the year.”
