Lord Mayor's Lunar New Year message
Lord Mayor of Adelaide Dr Jane Lomax-Smith wishes everyone a prosperous Lunar New Year – the Year of the Dragon.
“My heartfelt wish for you and your family is prosperity, good health and good fortune,” she said.
The Lord Mayor said the City of Adelaide again was supporting the annual Chinatown Lunar New Year Street Party in Moonta Street and Gouger Street from 2:00 pm until 9:00 pm on Saturday 17 February.
“The Chinatown Street Party is always a fabulous event,” she said.
“I invite everyone to join our Chinese community in celebrating the Year of the Dragon with musical performances, street food and traditional lion dances.”
The Lord Mayor said Rundle Mall will welcome the Year of the Dragon with hourly traditional lion dances from noon to 6:00 pm on Friday 16 February.
“There also will be dancers in Chinese lion costumes weaving their way down the Mall, ducking in and out of stores and performing spectacular feats,” she said.
“The God of Fortune will be handing out red envelopes containing golden chocolate coins during the afternoon, with one lucky recipient discovering a $250 Rundle Mall voucher.”
