Lord Mayor Martin Haese has congratulated State Liberal leader Steven Marshall on his historic victory and looks forward to working with the new State Government on plans for the City of Adelaide.

In particular, the Lord Mayor cited the State Liberals’ plans for the old Royal Adelaide Hospital site, the Riverbank and extensions to the tram network including the potential for a right hand turn at North Terrace, as vital projects for the City of Adelaide.

All of these plans are positive for the City of Adelaide’s economic and visitor growth and improvements to residential amenity.

The Lord Mayor is keen to work closely with Premier-elect Marshall and his team to ensure the City of Adelaide continues to grow.

“On behalf of Council, last night I called Premier-elect Steven Marshall to extend our congratulations on a Liberal victory,” said the Lord Mayor.

“The State Liberals have some exciting plans for the City of Adelaide with proposals like an extension of the tram network and new Aboriginal Art Gallery at the old RAH site and this is great news.

“As Lord Mayor, I will continue to advocate strongly for the City of Adelaide’s residential, commercial and visitor communities and seek partnerships that deliver greater community and economic benefit.

“I look forward to working with the Marshall Government to further these goals.

“It is also pleasing to note that Ten Gigabit Adelaide and Council’s smart city and digital projects are strongly supported by the incoming State Government.

“I will also continue to advocate for heritage protection, effective planning legislation and the strongest possible support for small business.

“I also pay tribute to outgoing Premier Jay Weatherill MP for the infrastructure, policies, incentives and partnerships that have greatly assisted the City of Adelaide in recent years.”
