Do You Know Someone Who Makes Your Community A Better Place?

The City of Adelaide Australia Day Awards nomination process is well and truly underway and City of Adelaide is currently receiving entries into the three categories: Citizen of the Year; Young Citizen of the Year and Community Event of the Year, and this year, wants to see more submissions than ever before.

The City of Adelaide Australia Day Awards are intended to recognise and reward individuals and organisations that have made significant contributions or given outstanding service over a number of years to the City of Adelaide.

Lord Mayor Martin Haese is encouraging people in the Adelaide community to look at those around them and see what people are doing so they can nominate for Citizen of the Year.

“City of Adelaide Australia Day Awards recognise the ordinary people in our community doing the extraordinary for their community, and making a real difference to the lives of others,” said Lord Mayor Martin Haese.

“We know there are many unsung heroes around and this process is a great opportunity to raise the profile of their work, to thank them for their contributions, and to inspire others to give back to the community.

“We had some great examples last year, including the legendary Frank Ford who has worked tirelessly in the arts for decades as Citizen of the Year; Adam Chesters, co-founder of online music broadcast service soundpond.net as Young Citizen of the Year; and Feast Festival as the Community Event of the Year.

“All worthy winners, of which I am sure there are many more that could be nominated this year. I really do want people to nominate those around them making a difference, to show just how great the people of Adelaide are, and continue to be,” he said.

As in previous years, there are three categories: Citizen of the Year, Young Citizen of the Year (person must be 30 years of age or less on 26 January 2016) and Community Event of the Year, and anyone can nominate an individual or organisation.

Nominees could be involved in education, health, fundraising, charitable and voluntary services, business, sport, arts, environment, or any other area that makes a difference to the wellbeing of the community.

“It really is a wonderful way to recognise and thank those in our community who go above and beyond to better the lives and city experiences of others,” said Martin.

The closing date for submissions is 13 November. Awards will be presented in the Adelaide Town Hall by the Lord Mayor as part of the City of Adelaide, Australia Day celebrations.
