Come run with Jess

The content of this media release is over six months old and may no longer be current.

Most of us will never get the chance to compete at the Olympics but a run with South Australia’s own Olympic marathon runner, Jess Trengove, is on offer tonight at Victoria Park.

Jess will lead the Women’s Recreational Running Network (WRRN) on a 5 kilometre run through the Park Lands at 6:00pm tonight, starting at the Victoria Park grandstand.

City of Adelaide is a proud supporter of the WRRN initiative as participation in physical activity can make a big difference to wellbeing, which is something Council is keen to encourage.

Jess said locals were so fortunate to have some fantastic parks and running trails in the heart of our CBD and that the WRRN was a great group to join and make the most of these trails.

“I love that the WRRN encourages women to get together and enjoy being active in our beautiful city park lands,” said Jess.

“Running in a group can be very motivating on the dark winter mornings and nights.

“It can be as challenging as you want it to be and also a great social outlet, and I look forward to catching up with a big group of Adelaide women who are ready for a relaxed and casual jog.”

Athletics SA CEO Adam Bishop said the free Women’s Recreational Running Network provides a supportive and social environment, particularly for new runners.

“We’re really excited to have created this opportunity for women to come and run with Jess just prior to her departure for the Rio Olympic Games,” said Adam.

“Jess is a fantastic ambassador for Running SA and the WRRN, and is very passionate about female participation in sport.”

City of Adelaidelor Priscilla Corbell is taking part in the run and said it provides a unique opportunity for females of all ages and abilities to come and have a casual run and chat with Jess.

“All they have to do is sign up for free to the WRRN via the Running SA website and then just come out tonight,” said Priscilla.

“Running SA will also be on hand with some giveaways, so register for the network and head along for the run that is proudly supported by Council.”

Lord Mayor Martin Haese, Parliamentary Secretary to the Premier Katrine Hildyard MP, and Athletics SA Chief Executive Adam Bishop will also be in attendance.
