Australia Day in the city
Australia Day in the city is set to be bigger and brighter than ever this year. The city will be buzzing with action and activity with something for everyone, from sports fans to music fans to shoppers.
“It’s going to be a great day out in the city so come on in and soak up the atmosphere,” Lord Mayor Stephen Yarwood said.
“There’s so much happening all day and it’s a long weekend too - just perfect for a day out in the city, whether you watch the last of the Tour Down Under, explore the Riverbank activity, squeeze in some shopping or enjoy a free concert in Elder Park. Or do it all!”
The last stage of the Tour Down Under will roll along its new route through the CBD on King William, Pirie, Flinders and Wakefield streets from 12.30.
City of Adelaide will proudly present Australia Day in the City, managed by the Australia Day Council of South Australia. Celebrations will start with the Australia Day Parade, one of the largest of its kind, making its way along King William Street from 6pm, followed by a FREE concert in Elder Park from 7pm featuring Timomatic and Sarah De Bono. The day will end with a bang with the Australia Day Fireworks at 9.45pm.
There’s also cricket at Adelaide Oval and the Great Aussie BBQ on the Riverbank with local wine and cider.
Rundle Mall will be open on Australia Day and on the Australia Day Public Holiday (Monday 27 January) from 11am – 5pm.
There will be a chill out zone set up in Gawler Place on Sunday where shoppers can relax and listen to Triple J’s Hot 100 and find out if their favourite song made the cut. Plus, to ensure that everyone is ready to wave the flag, there will be promotional staff handing out Australian flags and tattoos for free.

To celebrate Australia Day, the car parking operators surrounding Rundle Mall are providing fantastic parking deals on Australia Day and the Australia Day Public Holiday (Monday 27 January).
All UParks apart from the Central Market will provide a $6 Flat Fee on both Sunday and Monday. Topham UPark is a short walk to King William Road and Elder Park for those going to the cricket or the concert, while Gawler Place, Rundle and Wyatt UParks are convenient for Rundle Mall shoppers.
