Winter Coat Campaign

The content of this media release is over six months old and may no longer be current.

City of Adelaide is encouraging people to throw on a winter coat to enjoy the city over the cooler months, with a winter website and opportunities to win weekly prizes through social media using #WinterCoatADL.

Lord Mayor Martin Haese said there is every reason to get into the city during the cooler months with lots to see and do, and all people need is a winter coat.

“When the weather gets cooler the city doesn’t hibernate. We’re very lucky to live in Adelaide where the winters are relatively mild and there is so much to see and do,” said Martin.

“The reality is with a coat on there really are no excuses, I know I’ll be out and about being part of the city and I want people to join me.”

Splash Adelaide is again working with groups and individuals to bring colour and movement to the city in winter by supporting events, activities and displays in the city for the community by the community.

“With the recently completed redevelopments of Rundle Mall, Victoria Square and Adelaide Oval, combined with the Park Lands and the Central Market, people can shop, relax, dine or just enjoy the ambience anywhere in the city,” said Martin.

To be in the running for any of the great #WinterCoatADL prizes people should look out for the interactive selfie coasters at cafes, restaurants, retailers and hotels across the City and North Adelaide, and snap themselves and friends in their winter coat using #WinterCoatADL, then upload to Twitter or Instagram.

There will be chances to win weekly prizes with the major prize of a night for two at the Hilton Hotel. Other prizes include double passes to the Cabaret Festival, Central Market shopping vouchers and lots more.

The #WinterCoatADL winter coat initiative is also supporting Vinnies by providing collection points where people can donate unwanted coats for those in need.

In 2013 City of Adelaide signed a Memorandum of Understanding with St Vincent de Paul to raise $25,000 per year for three years for Vinnie’s good works. The winter coat donations support this MoU.

The #WinterCoatADL photo competition will run from 26 May until 3 July.
