Trip.com Names Adelaide the World’s Rising Star

Most of us already know Adelaide is a rising star but, it’s now official, with internationally renowned travel advisor website Trip.com rating our city 2017’s number one destination in its Rising Star Awards.

Tourism hot spots like Malta, Stuttgart, Cairo and Bucharest are well known throughout the world but these destinations all follow Adelaide in the top ten listing.

Trip.com asked if people knew Adelaide is at the front door of South Australia's magical nature, the wines of the Barossa Valley, plays host to the Adelaide Festival and Fringe Festival, is studded with great restaurants and has a 'Kangaroo Island'?

“Neither did most of us, but people are starting to discover this Australian metropolis in spades,” a company spokesperson said.

“The annual Adelaide Fringe festival swells the city into a buzzing hive of artsy activity which earns the city much of its reputation, but truth be told it's a stately, enjoyable city at any time of the year, with good restaurants and bars on Melbourne St and North Terrace and lovely beaches like Semaphore just out of town.”

Deputy Lord Mayor Megan Hender welcomed the news, saying that it’s fantastic to be recognised by yet another award following the Lonely Planet listing of 5th best region to visit in 2017.

“Whether you’re after world class food and wine, quality festivals and events or unforgettable experiences in our regions, Adelaide and South Australia really has it all for tourists,” said Megan.

“The award is further recognition of this and we’re very proud but certainly not surprised!”
