SALA Comes To The City Library

SALA is coming to the City Library for the first time for the month of August, showcasing an eclectic mix of art works ranging from traditional illustration through to digital media and photography.

City of Adelaidelor Megan Hender will launch the group of exhibitions on opening night, Friday 1st August at 6pm.

“I have always been a big fan of the SALA Festival and it’s great to see our wonderful new library spaces used in such an innovative way,” said Megan.

“Adelaide really does hold its own when it comes to artistic talent and creativity and as a Council we believe one of our roles is to help facilitate the development of local talent.

“The new City Library is all about fostering and nurturing creativity whilst maintaining the traditions of a formal library space, and by showcasing these exciting emerging artists, we are able to do just that.

“The works by these talented artists are just a few of the great reasons to get into the city and see what’s happening in the City Library, there really is something for everyone,” she said.

Artists’ on display in the City Library’s diverse spaces include Elise Bonato’s multimedia exhibition, James Boulton’s painting and animation, Chopped Collective’s textile work, Annette Willis’ print and digital photography, and sculpture by Graham Shaw.

The Little Big Book Club will also be putting on an exhibition entitled “The Art of Illustrating and Designing books for Children”.

Jo Kerlogue is the City Library’s Program and Facilities Coordinator and she couldn’t be happier with this outcome.

“To showcase such an array of art works in the one space in a way that enhances each exhibition wouldn’t be possible in most spaces, but the modern design and flexibility of the library has enabled this to occur in an organic manner,” said Jo.

“We are very proud of our local artists and also of the way we have been able to exhibit their works in this way that brings out the best in each. The library’s design has enabled each piece of each exhibition to be very accessible, which is the overall intention of the library – access for everyone.”

The exhibitions will be on display from 1 – 31 August during the City Library opening hours.
