Reminder: Military Parade in City Centre This Friday

Up to 500 soldiers, supported by four Armoured Personnel Carriers, will take part in a major military parade and march through the City tomorrow morning (Friday 8 September).

Members of the 1st Brigade, 7th Battalion Royal Australian Regiment (7RAR), will be granted “Freedom of Entry” by the City of Adelaide.

The parade will commence from 10.20am on Torrens Parade Ground, followed by a march up King William Street towards the Town Hall, where the Freedom of Entry will be formally conferred upon the soldiers.

Lord Mayor Martin Haese has urged city workers, visitors and residents to take time out to view the parade and support the Battalion.

“Freedom of Entry is a custom dating back to medieval times when military forces were granted permission to enter a city with swords drawn, drums beating and colours flying.

“Without a Freedom of Entry agreement, which indicates peaceful intent, military forces were often turned away at the city gates.

“Tomorrow’s ceremony promises to be quite a spectacle.”

WHERE: From TORRENS PARADE GROUND, VICTORIA DRIVE – to ADELAIDE TOWN HALL
Following a ceremony at the Parade Ground, 7RAR members will march along King
William Street to Town Hall before concluding at Tarntanyangga /Victoria Square

TRAFFIC IMPACTS: From 10am to 2pm - Victoria Drive will be closed between Kintore Avenue and King
William Road
Between 11:30am and 12:15pm - SA Police will facilitate a rolling road closure along
King William Road and King William Street (southbound traffic lanes only) with the
march concluding in the northern section of Tarntanyangga/Victoria Square.
