Proposed Helipad In Adelaide Park Lands – Bonython Park/Tulya Wardli

The content of this media release is over six months old and may no longer be current.

Background

In 2016, the City of Adelaide endorsed a commercial helipad to be located in the Adelaide Park Lands. The intention is to establish a helipad that can enable commercial and private helicopter flights to arrive and depart from the City centre. A centrally located helipad will bring more visitors to the City and will provide increased opportunities for businesses. Major South Australian tourism destinations, such as the Barossa Valley, Fleurieu Peninsula and Kangaroo Island are within a short flight time.

To achieve this a small section of our vast Adelaide Park Lands will be allocated for a dedicated commercial helipad. Council is now in the process of pursuing interest from the industry to determine the preferred operator or consortia for the helipad.

Project Information

We are proposing to lease a portion of the Adelaide Park Lands in Bonython Park/Tulya Wardli (section west of Morphett Street Bridge), to allow the development of a Helipad. This will require fencing, car parking and supporting infrastructure that will be subject to development approval under the Development Act 1993 before proceeding.

Under the Local Government Act 1999, councils are required to formally undertake public consultation for a lease or licence over community land that is not provided for in the relevant community land management plan.

Council is seeking feedback on:

The proposal to develop a helipad on community land in Bonython Park/Tulya Wardli (the section west of Morphett Street Bridge).
