The inaugural Active Ambassador Sports Awards will be held in North Adelaide tonight to celebrate people who have encouraged and inspired people in the City of Adelaide to get involved in sport.

The City of Adelaide’s #ActiveAmbassador program partners with sporting organisations and individuals to promote free/low cost activities in the City.

The program has the support of a growing list of celebrity Active Ambassadors, including media veteran, Keith Conlon, and The Advertiser’s Katrina Stokes and Ali Clarke.

Acting Lord Mayor, Houssam Abiad, will welcome guests to the ceremony and was full of praise for the exciting new initiative that celebrates our local sporting heroes.

“As part of our 175th Anniversary celebrations, Council is pleased to support the inaugural Active Ambassador Sports Awards to recognise people who make extraordinary contributions to community sport,” Houssam said.

“These individuals certainly don’t do it for the recognition but it’s important they are celebrated and rewarded for their efforts.”

President of Recreation SA, Phil Sinnott, and Rebel Sport Rundle Mall’s Michael Sheeky will present the winners with their awards.

Rebel Sport Rundle Mall have sponsored the Junior Club of the Year and Senior Club of the Year Awards and are providing $250 worth of vouchers for the winners of both awards.

Other awards include Volunteer of the Year and Athlete of the Year in both junior and senior categories, Coach of the Year, Event of the Year, Official of the Year and a very special award for a local legend of South Australian sport.
