MEDIA ALERT: Fibre Optic damage in Victoria Square

The content of this media release is over six months old and may no longer be current.

City of Adelaide confirms that this afternoon our contractors on the Victoria Square Upgrade Project damaged a section of fibre optic cable which supports network services to several Council sites and some businesses across the south western side of the city.

We have specialist technicians in the Square now assessing and repairing the cable. Council officers are also contacting a range businesses and organisations who we know receive network services through the damaged cable to see if they are experiencing problems.

Technicians will be working through the night to bring services back on line and we will keep affected stakeholders informed of how the repairs are tracking.

At this point we are prioritising repairs for key external stakeholders and some council systems, which we expect to be up and running by mid-morning tomorrow, with the remainder by early afternoon.

While all traffic signals are operating normally, sequencing may be affected in this afternoon’s and tomorrow morning’s peak hour. This could add to motorists travel times.

Council sites impacted by the damaged cable include libraries and community centres and some of our UPark sites. Council staff will be on hand around the clock to assist customers at the affected UParks.

We apologise to those stakeholders who have had service disruptions and thank people for their patience while we work to restore services to normal.
