City of Adelaide has taken the first step towards developing a masterplan for the future of the historic North Adelaide Golf Course (NAGC) precinct.

Council has appointed consultants GHD Woodhead to begin work on a plan that will help to determine the optimum course layout and operating model needed to ensure the precinct’s long-term commercial sustainability.

Lord Mayor Martin Haese said the objective of the masterplan was to identify the right facilities, services and course footprint that would ultimately increase club patronage and community participation.

“This process represents a great opportunity to achieve substantial improvements to the courses, facilities and services that can be offered to both the Adelaide community, and interstate and international visitors.”

The Lord Mayor said the North Adelaide Golf Course was a ‘jewel in the crown’ of the city’s Park Lands.

“As the most centrally located golf course complex in any Australian capital city, the NAGC is ideally located to capitalise on recent and proposed improvements to the Riverbank and Adelaide Oval precincts, and to take advantage of the growth in convention based tourism to Adelaide.”

The Lord Mayor said that consultation with golfers and the broader community would form an integral part of the master plan development.

“Our aim is to grow and improve the services and experience offered by North Adelaide Golf Course and hearing from those directly and indirectly involved with its operations is essential to this process.

“Anyone wanting to share their views during the upcoming consultation period can register their interest at http://yoursay.cityofadelaide.com.au

“The master plan will need to be sympathetic of the surrounding residential zone and also reflect the community land status of the Park Lands that the NAGC sits within.

“I want to stress that no decisions have yet been taken about any aspect of the Golf Course’s operations or layout,” the Lord Mayor said.

A draft masterplan is due to be presented to Council in mid-2017.

Background information

The North Adelaide Golf Course precinct comprises eight per cent of Adelaide’s extensive network of Park Lands which surround the Central Business District and North Adelaide.

With 54 golf holes over three courses (South, North and Par 3), North Adelaide is the largest Council-operated golf complex in Australia. A total of 72,000 rounds were played across all three courses in 2015-16.
