Have your say on proposed city planning changes

The content of this media release is over six months old and may no longer be current.

The community has the chance to have their say on proposed planning policy changes to parts of the City and North Adelaide, with formal public consultation under way from 31 October to 16 January.

Consultation on the Residential and Main Street Development Plan Amendment (DPA), relates to residential areas in the City’s south west and south east as well as Melbourne, O’Connell and Hutt streets.

The DPA will consider how existing policies for these areas fit with the 30 Year Plan for Greater Adelaide, while also looking at ways to reinforce the liveability for future generations.

Acting Lord Mayor, Dr Michael Llewellyn-Smith AM, says this consultation is the third stage of an extensive community consultation process that began in 2012.

He said the Council is committed to continuing to work collaboratively to achieve the best outcomes for the community.

“We’ve listened to people’s views and the feedback from the 140 submissions received during the early consultation phase, has helped to inform and shape the current proposal,” Michael said.

“The Council is conscious of working together with the community to create a vibrant city, while also balancing the need to preserve the historic character of these areas.

“Information sessions were held last October and in February, to provide City residents, businesses and the wider community, with an opportunity to find out more information and discuss the directions of the draft DPA with the Council’s planning staff.”

The general public can find out more at community information sessions, to be held as follows:

  • 16 November, 10am-1pm: Box Factory Community Centre
  • 18 November, 4-7pm: Adelaide South West Community Centre
  • 30 November, 11am-2pm: North Adelaide Community Centre and Library

The DPA is also available for viewing in the Planning Centre, while public meetings will be held on 29 January, at 5pm, and (if required) on 30 January, at 5.30pm, in the Adelaide Town Hall.
