Adelaide Town Hall will be filled with the sounds of Christmas and classical greats on Sunday 4 December at the Lord Mayor’s Christmas Gala Concert.

On arrival, guests will be greeted by members of the Victoriana Society in full costume. Once inside, they will be taken back through time by music from Australia and Europe similar to that which would have been heard at the Town Hall over the decades.

The program includes performances by Graduate Singers, The Australian Army Jazz Ensemble, Hats Inc and the City of Adelaide Pipe Band.

City of Adelaide Lord Mayor Martin Haese said that this year there is much to celebrate.

“The Lord Mayor’s Christmas Gala Concert at the Adelaide Town Hall will be a night to remember with spectacular performances from some of Adelaide’s most talented musicians and actors, and Keith Conlon as our Master of Ceremonies.

“This year the Adelaide Town Hall celebrates its 150th anniversary. It is truly a building of the people, having hosted many events and celebrations during its time, creating special and deeply personal memories for hundreds-of-thousands of South Australians.

“The Christmas Gala Concert is a long-standing tradition of joining with the community to celebrate the Town Hall’s history and welcome Christmas with a wonderful variety of music.

“Adelaide has long had a reputation as a city that supports live music and performance and late last year Adelaide was named a UNESCO City of Music - the only one in Australia – in recognition of our commitment to live music in all its forms. The Gala is truly a reflection of this.

“And in keeping with the spirit of celebrating all forms of live music, I will be joining the fabulous Gala musicians on stage this year for a unique performance.

“I’d love to see members of our community joining me for an afternoon of music, history and Christmas cheer. I’d also like to wish everyone a wonderful festive season.”

The Gala’s Artistic Director, Andrew Jefferis said that this would be the best Gala for years.

“The audience will be treated to some of Europe’s most popular operatic favourites, a touch of Jazz, and music theatre from My Fair Lady.

“There will also be some original and recently composed songs about the history of Adelaide, along with a few contemporary surprises including a song by John Lennon, an excellent choir and a community carol or two accompanied by the Town Hall’s wonderful organ.”

The concert will start at 2pm in the Town Hall Auditorium and finish by 4.15pm. During the 20 minute interval, complimentary refreshments will be served and the Victoriana society will be in the foyer in costume.

Tickets are free for City of Adelaide residents and can be secured at a BASS outlet. Everyone is welcome to attend with ticket prices for non-city residents starting at $5 for concession card holders, up to $15 for full price paying adults.
