The busy festival season is here, but there’s no reason why getting around the city during the festival season needs to send you to your wits end.

Beat the Jam is your one-stop shop for information on alternative means of transport in and around the city, traffic notifications, Adelaide 500 road closures and a stack of after 5pm activity in the city.Lord Mayor Martin Haese said Council is approaching the busy season with a businesses as usual attitude for the city.

“We’re promoting a range of options to navigate city traffic such as walking to work, jumping on your bike, catching public transport or carpooling to make it easier to enjoy the summer events we have planned,” said Martin.

“It’s important to remember the city doesn’t shut down after five either, so we encourage people to linger longer with many of our UParks providing a range of options for nights and weekend parking.

“This means you can stay late and catch an Adelaide Festival or Fringe show, grab a bite, check out our pubs, bars, live music or late night shopping and explore what the city has to offer.”

If you’ve been thinking about saving time and riding your bike to work, but you're not overly confident on your bike or riding through Adelaide's traffic, Council has you covered there too with a bike safety education course to help you learn how to cope.

Lee-Anne Fleming, Owner and Director of Ride-a-Bike Right has noticed more and more people choosing to ride into and around the city.

“Our courses have been designed for the less-experienced riders and aim to improve skills and confidence to navigate city traffic,” said Lee-Anne.

“We provide practical skills such as bike safety checks, the correct use of gears, how to ride in traffic and give you a guided ride around the CBD.”
