Australia Day in the City

The content of this media release is over six months old and may no longer be current.

There is plenty of action happening in the city this Australia Day with something for everyone, from sports fans to music fans to shoppers. City of Adelaide Lord Mayor encouraged people to come in and enjoy what’s on offer.

“It’s going to be a great day out in the city so come on in and soak up the atmosphere. “There’s the traditional One Day International cricket match at Adelaide Oval with Australia battling it out with Pakistan which is sure to be an exciting game. “Rundle Mall will be open from 11 am - 5 pm for Australia Day shopping, or join Adelaide 500 in the Mall from 11 am - 3 pm to celebrate all things Australian.

“Visitors will have the opportunity to see what’s in store for this year’s race with displays, information and giveaways. Get a photo with the Stadium Super Truck, enter to win an 'Adelaide 500 Experience', free lamingtons and a special appearance from Supercar Driver, Tim Slade.

“The Australia Day Parade will feature more than 100 community groups celebrating Australia’s cultural diversity, starting from Franklin Street at 6pm and making its way to Elder Park via King William Street.

“Following this is of course our family-friendly Australia Day concert, featuring Aussie musicians and spectacular fireworks and expected to draw a crowd of more than 35,000 people.

“Bring in the family, meet your friends and make a day of it in the city.”

From 7pm, the Australia Day in the City concert kicks off with performances by David Campbell and his Big Band, plus performances from Emma Pask, Mahalia Barnes and Chrstine Anu.

This year Australia Day in the City will also have performances by local artists Claudia Migliaccio and Samuel Pring.

The Australian Defence Forces will perform the 21 Gun Salute from the King William Street Bridge in conjunction with an F-18 flypast. And don’t miss the finale when the sky above the city will light up with spectacular fireworks.

To make it easy and convenient to come into the city and celebrate Australia Day, all UParks (except Central Market) will have a $7 flat fee to park all day. UPark on Gawler Place is a short walk to King William Road and Elder Park for those going to the cricket, the parade or the concert, and will be open until midnight. UPark on Topham is also only a short walk to King William Road and Elder Park and you can guarantee your parking space by booking online at http://upark.com.au/ubook-upark/ ($8 all day flat fee applies when pre-booked online).
