Adelaide Town Hall Throws Open Its Doors

One of the city’s most iconic public buildings – the Adelaide Town Hall – is opening its doors to the public this Sunday.

Held in conjunction with Government House Open Day, thousands of people are expected to flock to the city to explore Australia’s first capital city town hall between 11am and 4pm.

Lord Mayor Sandy Verschoor said the annual open day invites the community to get a rare behind-the-scenes look at the Town Hall.

“Open Day presents an interactive experience for people of all ages to learn about the Adelaide Town Hall and City of Adelaide’s past, present and future,” said the Lord Mayor.

“With family-friendly activities, history presentations and live music, Town Hall Open Day is a great opportunity to come and explore a city icon – all for free.

“Government House will also be open, so make a day of it in the city with the whole family.”

The theme of open day this year is Past, Present and Future.

The Ground Floor will represent the past and the history of Town Hall, level one represents our city in the present day, and level two is a snapshot of new technology and the road ahead for Adelaide.

There’s plenty for music lovers too with the organ being played regularly, Town Hall bells, jazz music and special guests Diamond Skies – a folk pop acoustic trio who will play throughout the day.
