Fostering Food Culture
Do you like exploring foods from different cultures? Understanding connections between produce, where it’s grown and people’s story?
One idea being explored is to establish a centre for food culture in the District. A centre would combine Aboriginal, European, migrant and modern cultural histories in order to celebrate and express history and culture via a shared connection to food and the environment. Flagged within Our Market District, a centre for food culture might be a place where people and organisations celebrate and share connections building on the District’s strong cultural and social attachments.
Engagement during 2016 affirmed support for the idea of a centre and the need for a partnership body to lead its establishment. Engagement affirmed the value of locating a centre in close proximity to the Adelaide Central Market.
During 2017, fostering cultural expression around food, be it produce, wine or craft beverages, will be explored as part of City of Adelaide’s engagement around supporting cultural experiences in the City. The idea of a centre for food culture will be considered by the Adelaide Central Market Authority in its long term planning.
