Past Media Lab Projects

Artist in Residencies

Michelle Britton - When Creatures Collide

During May - June 2016 Michelle Britton explored the fascinating process of digital artwork creation by transforming the City Library's Media Lab into a mythical menagerie. Patrons were able to attend hands-on workshops where they learnt about the digital art creation process, tools and techniques using Adobe Photoshop and a Wacom tablet. Michelle also developed a series of her own artworks inspired by community suggestions and community 'exquisite corpse' drawings.

Michelle started drawing as a young child and over the course of her life has investigated many artistic tools and techniques. As technology advanced she found herself drawn to the digital creation process and has trained in both 2D and 3D production. Michelle currently studies web site development and works as a freelance artist and graphic designer. She also volunteers at the City of Adelaide Library’s Innovation Lab, working primarily with the 3D printers.

Nicholas Lyons - Green Screen Program

During 2015 Nicholas Lyons worked with members of the public, Media Lab volunteers and library staff to establish the Media Lab Green Screen program. Nick’s residency made it possible for members of the community dreaming of being movie stars to see themselves in new worlds and interact live on screen through a range of backdrops and scenarios. Volunteers continue to provide patrons with the opportunity to learn about green screens and make their own movies as part of the ongoing Green Screen program Nick worked to establish.

Harry T. Tregilgas

During May and June 2014, the Media Lab hosted Artist in Residence Harry T Tregilgas, musician and filmmaker. The residency resulted in a piece of improvised music composed in the Media Lab, which overlays a 3 minute time lapse film of a busy space in the library, showcasing how that space is used over a period of time.
