Be a Volunteer

Volunteers are highly valued in the City of Adelaide as volunteer activities contribute significantly to the positive experiences of residents, businesses, visitors and students. The City of Adelaide has a diversity of volunteer roles available for individuals and families.

Volunteer Now

Our Volunteer Vision

Volunteers will be given the opportunity to share their passions, abilities and skills in meaningful ways that strengthen community capacity. Activities of City of Adelaide’s Volunteer Program create a sense of belonging, enable creative expression, promote social inclusion, challenge inequity, encourage sustainable practices, and promote wellbeing in city communities. Activities of City of Adelaide’s Volunteer Program contribute to delivery of the City of Adelaide 2016 - 2020 Strategic Plan.

Below is all the information you need and a step-by-step guide to get started:

  • Read the Volunteer Handbook and Frequently Asked Questions.
  • Consider the vacancies listed and read the associated role statement.
  • Consider your availability, interest and ability to undertake the role and whether you can commit to a minimum of six months.
  • Apply for a vacant position using the online application system.
  • You will receive an email to acknowledge receipt of your application. Short listed applicants will be invited to attend a short interview to discuss their application.
  • Once approved as a Volunteer you will go through a short induction process that includes learning more about Work Health and Safety guidelines, completing a National Criminal History Clearance application form, signing the Code of Conduct and other general information.
  • Following this you will meet with your assigned Volunteer Supervisor for an on-site induction to the area that you will volunteer.

If you have any questions, please contact the Volunteer Coordinator on (08) 8203 7203 or email .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address)

While giving back to the community, volunteering also has benefits for your health and well being; Esme Barratt, a Community Wellbeing Project Officer at the City of Adelaide, explores why volunteering could be just as good for you as it is for others, here.

Family Volunteering

Growing Together

Opportunities now exist for parents/guardians and their children to spend quality time together volunteering in the Bushland restoration program in the Wirrarninthi area (Park 23) on the first Saturday of each month.

Under the guidance of the Park Land Ranger, volunteers undertake a variety of tasks that are hands-on, educational, fun and family-orientated. For more information on this family friendly initiative, email .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) or phone: 8203 7290.

Volunteer of the Year

Nigel Jordan, Volunteer with BMX City Dirt won the City of Adelaide 2018 Volunteer of the Year Award.

For 10 years, averaging 60 volunteer hours a month (on top of his full time job and raising his kids), Nigel has demonstrated qualities that have inspired inclusion, excellence, collaboration, commitment, honesty and respect and has taken on change in a constructive positive manner, encouraging the greater bmx culture in Adelaide, interstate and nationally.

Affectionately referred to as “Trail Dad”, Nigel loves nothing more than digging, maintaining and running the logistical side of the BMX Hub. Liaising with council, fundraising for equipment and organising the annual jam and various other programs and projects with co-BMX volunteers (aka “Trail Bosses”) are some of his inspiring traits.
