Residential parking permit

Residents of the City of Adelaide who do not have space to park their vehicle may be eligible for a residential parking permit.

Eligibility criteria and conditions

To be eligible for a Residential Parking Permit you must:

  • Be a resident in the City of Adelaide council area
  • If you are not the property owner, we require your tenancy/lease agreement.
  • Provide a copy of the current vehicle registration certificate. This must show the vehicle is currently registered, the name and address of the registered owner and that the vehicle is kept at your residential address.
Note: If the vehicle is a company vehicle you must provide the current registration certificate and a letter from the registered owner or company which states that you have full use of the vehicle and it is required to be garaged at your home address.
  • Apartments are not eligible

Residential Parking Permits allow residents to park in:

  • Time-limited zones of 1 hour or more in the designated area
  • Ticketed/paid zones of 1 hour or more in the designated area
  • Designated residential permit zones in the designated area

Note: The vehicle must be moved every 24 hours. Please refer to the signage in the area and note any zone changes which may come into effect.

In addition to the terms above, you must meet the requirements of one of the following categories:

This category applies to a dwelling, multiple dwellings* or group of dwellings* within a single building with development approval before 1976.

This category applies to a dwelling, multiple dwellings or group of dwellings within a single building that meets the requirements of Category 1 or Category 2 and where a resident requires daily medical treatment.

A Daily Care Parking Permit may be issued for the sole use of an approved person providing daily care (e.g. Medical Practitioners, Physiotherapists, Registered and Enrolled Nurses and Accredited Carers) provided the total number of permits issued does not exceed the maximum stated for Category 1 or Category 2, as applicable.

This category applies to a dwelling, multiple dwellings or group of dwellings within a single building that meet the requirements of Category 2, and where a resident is the holder of a current Pensioner Health Benefit Card or a full time Student Card.

Presentation of either of these cards entitles the holder to a concession of 25% to the permit fee for one vehicle.

This category applies to single dwellings (excludes hotels, hostels and boarding houses, etc) where the property is designated for short-term tenancy e.g. a few days/weeks.

Due to the nature of these permits it is necessary to issue them to the dwelling instead of the vehicle. The maximum number of permits issued to any dwelling for this use will be one.

*A multi-dwelling property or group of dwellings includes units and strata groups. If your property has a shared title it is typically classed as a multi dwelling. Please note that apartment buildings are not eligible for any type of residential parking permit.
