No parking

NO PARKING:

The NO PARKING sign means you can stop for up to two minutes to drop off or pick up passengers or goods. The driver must stay within three metres of the vehicle at all times.

Some No Parking zones have exemptions (for example, for emergency vehicles), allowing those vehicles to stop for longer if needed.

No standing

NO STOPPING:

The NO STOPPING sign means you must not stop at any time unless required by traffic conditions (for example, waiting in a traffic queue). These zones are in place to ensure road safety.

Loading zone no time

LOADING ZONE:

A vehicle may not park in a LOADING ZONE unless:

  • It's a commercial vehicle loading or unloading goods, for no more than 30 minutes;

  • It's another vehicle loading/unloading heavy or large items, for the time shown on the sign;

  • It's a public bus picking up or dropping off passengers;

  • It's a taxi picking up or dropping off passengers (if hailed or booked), and the driver stays within 3 metres of the taxi

Permit zone no time

PERMIT ZONE:

This area is reserved for vehicles displaying a valid permit issued or recognised by the council for this zone.

Please note: A disability parking permit does not allow parking in a Permit Zone unless the sign also displays the disability symbol.

Bus lane 2

BUS LANE:

A driver must not stop in a BUS LANE, transit lane or truck lane unless the driver:

(a) is driving a public bus, public minibus or taxi, and is dropping off, or picking up, passengers; and

(b) is permitted to drive in the lane under the Australian Road Rules or another law of this jurisdiction

Multi sign 3

MULTIPLE SIGNS:

Here is a breakdown of how to read a sign with multiple instructions.

To the left of the sign:

No Stopping — 4 PM to 6 PM

  • No stopping at all between 4:00 pm and 6:00 pm.
  • You cannot stop your vehicle, even briefly, unless in traffic.

Loading Zone — 9 AM to 4 PM

  • From 9 AM to 4 PM, it's a Loading Zone.
  • Only eligible vehicles (for example, commercial vehicles) can stop here to load/unload goods for up to 30 minutes.
  • Taxis, buses, and vehicles with large/heavy goods may also have limited access.

1P Parking — Other times

  • At all other times outside the hours above, you may park for up to 1 hour.

To the right of the sign:

No Stopping — At All Times

  • No stopping is allowed at any time in the direction to the right of the sign.

Area parking

AREA PARKING:

This sign means you can park in the designated area for a maximum of 2 hours, unless otherwise signed.

Area Parking restrictions often apply across a wider zone rather than a single street or parking area.

Event parking

2P EVENT PARKING:

This sign means you can park for a maximum of 2 hours in the signed location during event periods.

For Adelaide Oval Events that have a scheduled patronage of 20,000 or more the City of Adelaide will implement temporary 2P Event Parking and Event Parking Restrictions.

As you are driving into an area with an event taking place you will see event parking advisory signs located at the entry roads into that area (see example sign below). These display the date and time of the next upcoming event parking times.

Outside event times, normal parking rules for that area apply.

Taxi zone

TAXI ZONE:

This sign means only taxis can stop in this area during the times shown on the sign.

Other vehicles are not allowed to stop or park here during the stated times.

This ensures taxis have a safe and convenient space to pick up and drop off passengers.

Residential permit parking

RESIDENTIAL PARKING PERMIT ZONE:

This sign means only vehicles displaying a valid residential parking permit for that zone may park in the area during the times shown.

Without a permit, you must follow the general parking restrictions shown (for example, time limits or ticket parking).

Yellow line correct

YELLOW LINES:

A continuous yellow line painted on the edge of the road means no stopping at any time.

You must not stop your vehicle on a yellow line. This restriction helps keep the road clear and safe for traffic flow.
