Ageing Well Program
The Ageing Well team offers a diverse range of activities throughout the year for residents aged 55 and over.
You’ll find a range of community events and programs held at the City of Adelaide Community Centres and Libraries located throughout Adelaide and North Adelaide.
You can choose from social programs, information sessions, and even outings.
Cycling Without Age
One of our most popular experiences is Cycling Without Age, which provides relaxed, seated cycling rides along the River Torrens. These outings are delivered in partnership with Cycling Without Age South Australia and are offered to community groups and organisations on a regular basis, with the Ageing Well team scheduling rides twice each year.
During the experience, residents enjoy a scenic journey along the river with a trained volunteer pilot, before returning to Bonython Park to relax and enjoy light refreshments at Café Bonython.
The overwhelmingly positive feedback from participants means the Ageing Well team will be offering additional rides in 2026.

Recent research
This latest qualitative research report by The Plug-in, COTA SA, builds on research findings conducted in 2023. A co-design process was undertaken in 2024 to design a new social program for City of Adelaide residents aged 50+. To ensure informed decisions, the City of Adelaide engaged COTA SA’ s (Council of the Ageing) The Plug In (research and insights team) to undertake a co-design process with older city residents to develop recommendations for this program.
Key insights highlight the importance of fostering social interactions through activities that cater to personal interests, lifelong learning, emotional wellbeing, and both structured and unstructured physical activities.
Simplifying how residents access information about council-run activities is also essential, addressing difficulties in staying informed. Recommendations emphasise starting small, focusing on easily coordinated activities, and improving communication about existing programs to enhance connections and wellbeing for older residents.
From 1 July 2025 City of Adelaide will no longer provide a service broker for the Commonwealth Home Support Programme (CHSP).
City of Adelaide is committed to supporting the wellbeing of all older city residents and will launch a new Ageing Well program later in 2025.
