The Hotel Thistle was on the south-west corner of Waymouth and Bentham Streets. Established as the Scotch Thistle Inn in 1839, it traded until 1970. The building has been demolished. The art deco facade was added in 1937.

'Drink at 2.15 p.m.
William Patrick Flannagan. licensee of the Thistle Hotel. Waymouth street, City, was fined £5 with 12/6 costs in the Adelaide Police Court today on a charge of having supplied liquor to Sylvia Gertrude Evans about 2.15 p.m on November 14. Mrs. Evans, a hairdresser, and her husband, William Vivian Evans, air craft inspector, boarders at the hotel, were charged with having obtained liquor at the hotel between 2 and 4 p.m on November 14. Mrs. Evans was fined £1 with 10/ costs and the husband £2 with 10/ costs.'
