Horse and Jockey Hotel, Carrington Street, 1941

B 10567 North-west corner of Carrington and Queen Streets, this hotel was established in 1846 and partly rebuilt in 1877. It ceased trading in 1921 but the building survives with changes to its facade. 'FAREWELL TO A TROOPER. On Thursday evening a number of friends and comrades assembled at the Horse and Jockey Hotel, Carrington Street, to say good-by to Tpr. David Andrews. Songs, recitations, and a good exhibition of conjuring by Mr. Cole filled up the programme. The guest of the evening was presented with a wrist watch, bandolier, and silver-mounted pipe. In acknowledging the presentation Mr. Andrews said that he was not forced to go but believed in every son of Erin fighting for his King and country.
