Women On The Run In The City

The content of this media release is over six months old and may no longer be current.

The Women’s Recreational Running Network (WRRN) is a free initiative that aims to increase women’s participation within the City and utilise our great city parks.

Launching tomorrow in Elder Park, the concept involves a ‘run club’ where women of all ages are guided by a qualified run leader in a relaxed environment. WRRN is part of the City of Adelaide’s #ActiveAmbassador program that partners with sporting organisations and individuals to promote free/low cost activities in the City.

The WRRN already has more than 300 members and is growing each day. Lord Mayor, Martin Haese, said City of Adelaide was pleased to partner with Athletics SA to support great initiatives like the WRRN.

“City of Adelaide is delighted to support this initiative as it’s about encouraging regular fitness in a safe and supported environment in our City’s beautiful Park Lands,” Martin said.

“It’s free and convenient for city workers, as the groups are run twice a week at lunch time and after work in locations within the City.”

City of Adelaide Celebrity Active Ambassador, Ali Clarke, is a big supporter of the program.

“As a working mother, I know how hard it can be to make time for exercise and it’s programs like the WRRN that are so useful for women of all ages and abilities,” Ali said.

“The running network is especially handy as it gets cooler and darker, as running in numbers is safer and it also means you get a ready-made support network to make sure you don’t skip sessions!”
