UPDATE MEDIA ALERT: Fibre Optic damage in Victoria Square

We reported yesterday that damage to a fibre optic cable in Victoria Square impacted several of Council’s network systems, including some of our UParks and around 70 traffic signals in the south west of the CBD.

We’re pleased to confirm that with our crews working around the clock, repairs are progressing as planned and systems are expected to be back up and running before this afternoon’s peak hour.

This will see full functionality restored to traffic signal operations, which allows control centre staff in Norwood to manually override operations to clear any congestion and help traffic flow more smoothly for this afternoon’s peak hour and beyond.

Our ticketing systems at our six affected UParks will also be operational this afternoon, but we will be providing free parking at these locations until close of business tonight to minimise inconvenience to our customers. The six Uparks affected are Pirie/Flinders, Frome St, Wyatt St, Light Square, Central Market and Grote Street.

UParks operating normally are at Topham Mall, Gawler Place and Rundle Street and all UParks will be operating as per usual from Friday (21 June) morning.

Now that we’ve been able to restore services, we will be sitting down with our contractor to investigate what happened and what we need to do to minimise the risk of a repeat.

City of Adelaide would like to thank our UPark customers and Adelaide motorists for their patience while we’ve restored services. We are also grateful to the crews who have worked so hard on fixing the problem.
