TEDx Returns to Adelaide Town Hall

TEDxAdelaide will once again be held at Adelaide Town Hall, so don’t miss your chance to get along on Thursday 2 November to Zoom Out and hear from some inspirational speakers.

This year’s theme of Zoom Out is a coming together of creatives, innovators, and extraordinary people. With a focus on viewing the world through a different lens, and harnessing the power of our connections on a larger scale, TEDxAdelaide wants to know what opportunities lie ahead for our city.

TEDxAdelaide is an independently organised event supported by the City of Adelaide that welcomes an impressive line up of speakers in 2017, including:

• Flavia Tata Nardini - Flavia’s space career has zoomed from micropropulsion systems, to nano satellites, from European Space Agency to primary schools across Australia. Her next step is to encircle the globe with a free global connectivity platform and kick starting a new industrial revolution.
• Andrew Barker - Andrew became concerned by the struggles of many families to eat wholesome food and founded Grow Free, a community network that doesn’t just want food to be nutritious, but free.
• Audrey Mason Hyde - At just 12 years old, Audrey is already an accomplished actor with film and TV credits. With a fierce intellect and a unique sense of style, Audrey has plenty to say about our gendered world.
• Jacinta Koolmatrie - Jacinta is an Adnyamathanha and Ngarrindjeri person who grew up in Port Augusta. A Flinders University’s Ken Wanganeen medal winner, her dream is to work with her Adnyamathanha community to incorporate their perspectives of yura malka (rock art) into her research.
• Heather Smith - Energy is a hot topic at the moment, and Heather has spent a considerable amount of time on how we use this vital resource. Now she has ideas on what our energy future could become.

TEDxAdelaide Licencee Robin Freeth said people could still book their place for what once again promise to be an outstanding event.

“We have curated a cross-section of Adelaide to bring world-class ideas to the TEDxAdelaide stage. We hope that this event is just the start of a two-way conversation to inspire and share your own ideas,” said Robin.

“We also thank our partners, including the City of Adelaide, who share our ethos and support the ideas worth spreading.”

As a long-term TED fan, Lord Mayor Martin Haese was proud that Council was again supporting an event that locals had truly embraced since the first event was held at Adelaide Town Hall in 2015.

“I am a long-time supporter of TEDx in Adelaide and it is great that Council is able to assist the event for the third consecutive year by hosting it in our beautiful Town Hall,” said Martin.

“TEDxAdelaide helps us build a vibrant and diverse Adelaide and I look forward to seeing many hundreds of people gather once again in Town Hall next Thursday afternoon.”

TEDx is a program of local, self-organised events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At the TEDxAdelaide event, TEDTalks video and live speakers will combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organised.
