Sports Awards Recognise our Local Heroes

The City of Adelaide Sports Awards will be held in North Adelaide tonight to celebrate sporting success and those who have encouraged and inspired people in the City of Adelaide to be actively involved in sport. This is the second time the awards have been held and is a part of Council’s goal to get more people involved in sport, while enlivening our city and making it a great place to live, work and play. This year the event has been timed to coincide with National Volunteer Week (9-15 May). The awards and #ActiveAmbassador program has the support of a growing list of celebrity Active Ambassadors, including Keith Conlon, Katrina Stokes, Ali Clarke, and Ben Hook. Ben Hook also sits on the judging panel and looks forward to hosting tonight’s event.
Lord Mayor Martin Haese will welcome guests and present the inaugural Lord Mayor’s Volunteer of the Year Award, and praised the initiative that celebrates our local sporting heroes. “City of Adelaide is so pleased to acknowledge the unique achievements and contributions that individuals and organisations make to the city and North Adelaide,” Martin said. “It’s important we celebrate these achievements within our community, and support local sporting organisations and people who inspire us all.”
Along with the Lord Mayor, our generous event sponsors, including Beyond Bank, Rebel Sport (Rundle Mall), Clubs SA, and the Back in Motion Health Group, will present all the finalists and winners with their awards on the night. Other awards across seven categories include Coach or Official of the Year, Event or Program of the Year, Team of the Year and the prestigious Back in Motion Contribution to Lifelong Physical Health Award, recognising sports significant positive impact to people’s lives through physical activity.
Tonight’s event commences at 7:00pm at the North Adelaide Golf Course, Strangways Terrace, North Adelaide. A full list of award categories and winners is included. Please note embargo.
