The City of Adelaide is proud to announce Little Boxes, a collaborative exhibition with Country Arts SA at the Adelaide Town Hall 14 April – 3 June 2016, curated by Joanna Kitto, with an official launch on Thursday 21 April from 5.30-7.30pm.

Little Boxes presents nine South Australian artists whose practices reference, re-work and appropriate the motif of the house. Through painting, photography, sculpture and textile, the home is both admired and interrogated.

Little Boxes brings together the work of regional and metropolitan artists Timothy Dell (SA), Margaret Lloyd (SA), Kirsty Martinsen (SA), Sue Michael (SA), Tara O’Conal (SA), Tom Parbs (SA), Fiona Roberts (SA), Maria Salomonsen (SA) and Lise Temple (SA).

Little Boxes which launches at the Adelaide Town Hall on Thursday is presented by the City of Adelaide’s Emerging Curator Program in collaboration with Country Arts SA.

Facilitated by Eleanor Scicchitano, Little Boxes aims to further exchange between regional and metropolitan artists and audiences.

“The title references the 1962 politically-driven folk song by Malvina Reynolds that satirised the development of suburbia and middle-class conformity,” says curator Joanna Kitto. “There is a sense of unease to a lot of the work in Little Boxes, a restlessness in a space that is meant to bring us comfort,” said Eleanor.

In conjunction with the Adelaide Town Hall exhibition, is The Flaming O in the Art Pod, 25 Pirie Street Adelaide. Delight in the dazzling mind of Adelaide-based emerging artist Kaspar Schmidt Mumm (SA) in The Flaming O, a spectacularly immersive and ever-growing installation in a space that is viewable 24/7.

LAUNCH EVENT: 5.30 – 7.30pm Thursday 21 April. All welcome.

Even Still is a FREE exhibition running from 14 April – 3 June 2016, Level 1 Adelaide Town Hall.
