Kick Off the World Cup in Victoria Square/Tarntanyangga

Kick off the FIFA World Cup with soccer-fuelled fun in Victoria Square / Tarntanyangga this weekend and cheer on the Socceroos when they play Chile, screening at 7.00am Saturday morning.

The Spain versus Netherlands game will also be screened at 4.00am (local time), and Uruguay v Costa Rica, England v Italy and Cote d’Ivoire v Japan screened Sunday (times below).

There’ll be plenty of entertainment after the matches with Danca Brazil and SaSamba putting on dancing, capoeira and drumming demonstrations and classes throughout the day.

Coffee will be available from 4am and food trucks will be arriving between 6am and 11am.

The Football Federation of SA will be running Come and Try Clinics for kids on Saturday from 9am to 3pm, while Miniroos matches for under 6s to under 9s will be running in Victoria Square/ Tarntanyangga on Sunday morning.

Or give soccer in a bubble a try – Adelaide Bubble Soccer will be played Saturday morning and Sunday afternoon. FIFA video games will also be set up on the Playstation for between-game entertainment.

Acting Lord Mayor Natasha Malani said that people have been overwhelmingly positive with embracing the new-look Square and the events that have been held in it.

“Victoria Square/Tarntanyangga is the physical and ceremonial heart of the city and events like this are a great way to bring the community together.

“Bring your family and friends for plenty of soccer activities and entertainment while cheering for your team.”

Saturday 14 June

4.00am Spain v Netherlands

7.00am Australia v Chile

Sunday 15 June

4.00am Uruguay v Costa Rica

7.00am England v Italy

9.45am Cote d’Ivoire v Japan

The 1am matches on each day are not being shown.

People are advised to bring chairs and blankets to keep warm and comfortable.
