Have “Your Say” on Planning Changes for North Adelaide Institutions and Colleges

Proposed planning changes around North Adelaide’s colleges, hospitals and aged care facilities are out for public consultation from 27 August and people can register their comments through yoursay.cityofadelaide.com.au/your-say-adelaide until 9 November, 2015.

In addition to the online consultation through “your say”, Council has organised an information evening on Thursday, 1 October from 6pm to 8pm where speakers will provide a range of information about the proposed changes and what they might mean in North Adelaide.

The information session will be held at Cynthia Poulton Hall, King William Road, North Adelaide.

Lord Mayor Martin Haese said the information session will be an important opportunity for people who are considering providing input to the community consultation about the future of the college and hospital sites in North Adelaide.

“Community input is vital in any Development Plan Amendment. I encourage people to get involved - attend the public information meeting in order to better understand the proposal and to assist making comments,” said Martin.

“Colleges in North Adelaide offer a unique campus style accommodation to local, interstate and overseas students who choose to study and live in Adelaide, just as the hospitals offer important health services.

“It’s very important we get this right, and this includes honouring the long established institutions in North Adelaide and allowing them to continue to contribute to the fabric of the City.

With the new Royal Adelaide Hospital nearing completion, we really do need to make sure our institutions in North Adelaide have clear direction for the future,” he said.

Key proposals include developing site specific policy for all sites to guide future development which includes details around design, scale and built form; and acknowledging the existing land uses as a key component of the area.

Eleven sites are included in the proposed changes, all of which are important contributors to South Australia’s health and education sectors. They are Australian Lutheran College; Lincoln College; Aquinas College; St Mark’s College Adelaide; St Ann’s Residential College; Kathleen Lumley College; Calvary Hospital; Helping Hand Aged Care; St Dominic’s Priory; Memorial Hospital and the Women’s and Children’s Hospital.

The DPA aims to help guide the sites’ futures in the context of the area’s acknowledged heritage value and amenity while sensibly maximising the economic benefits that these institutions offer to the local area and city as a whole.

Consultation results will be compiled and presented back to Council early in 2016 before being presented to the Minister for Planning for consideration.
