Family Fun Day with Hairy Maclary and the Adelaide Night Markets

Make the most of your Sunday with the likes of Hairy Maclary and the Adelaide Night Markets on 29 March.

Come along to the State Library from 11am to 4pm to celebrate the opening of the Lynley Dodd: Retrospective exhibition which celebrates the works of Dame Lynley Dodd throughout her career as an author and illustrator of children’s books such as the much loved Hairy Maclary.

The Lord Mayor Martin Haese says that the State Library and Splash Adelaide have worked well together to create a full day of activities for the whole family.

“What is great about this free event is that it is interactive and entices both adults and children,” said Martin.

Community Engagement Officer Steve Burrows tells that there will be original drawings from Dame Lynley Dodd’s much loved books and an opportunity to see how her picture books are made and the characters and created.

“There will performances from Peter Combe and The Amazing Drumming Monkeys, as well as face painting, giant games and many more fun activities,” he says.

While you’re on that side of the city why not head on down to the last night of The Adelaide Night Markets which will run from 4pm to 8pm on North Terrace.

The Adelaide Night Markets are coming to an end of their third season and everyone is encouraged to come along and say farewell for another year.

Grab a bite to eat, relax to some tunes and soak up the vibe, it’s the perfect way to end a fun filled day with the family and friends.

There will be a colouring in competition for kids under twelve to win a double pass to Paul Blart Mall Cop 2 and the Malaysian Student Council of Australia is a launching a food stall “Malaysian trEATs” where all profits from that stall will go to charity organisations.

In conjunction with Splash Adelaide, the Adelaide Night Markets returned this summer bringing a world of colour and cuisine to North Terrace with a big focus on community.

Splash Adelaide is a campaign by the City of Adelaide that aims to bring our city streets and laneways to life through co-creation with the community.
The Lynley Dodd: Retrospective exhibition will be open until 14 June and is free for all ages.
