McHenry Street in the city has livened up even further with popular local eatery Handsome and the Duchess growing – with a little help from Enterprise Adelaide, City of Adelaide’s one stop shop for helping business.

Renovations at Handsome and the Duchess are complete, with the business increasing its seating capacity to help cater for its growing customer base.

Lord Mayor Martin Haese said it was pleasing to see yet another small business work so collaboratively with Enterprise Adelaide.

“We love seeing entrepreneurs have a go in the city and make a success of it,” said Martin.

“And Council has a real focus on supporting small businesses, as they make our city a more vibrant and exciting place to live, work and play.

“This local cafe is just one example of the many businesses doing great things in the city.”

Enterprise Adelaide worked closely with the business initially to help them get established in McHenry Street and have provided advice for their exciting plans to grow the business.

Enterprise Adelaide’s one stop shop service is all about providing advice on anything from planning and regulatory advice through to suggesting accountants and lawyers who can assist.

Handsome and the Duchess owner, Syed Haider, said that the support from Council allowed him to act quickly to kick start his expansion plans. Syed runs the business with his wife Shinae.

“I’ve really appreciated the hands on support from the team at Enterprise Adelaide,” said Syed.

“We’re confident about the city’s future and think our investment in the city is worth it, and we’re excited to welcome back our loyal customers, and to also welcome some new ones!

“I’ve originally come from Pakistan and lived interstate but settling in South Australia and starting our own small business in the city has been one of the most rewarding things I’ve ever done.
