Crane in Waymouth St and road closure

The content of this media release is over six months old and may no longer be current.

This weekend a large crane will be constructed in Waymouth Street to remove a crane tower from the top of the development at 115 King William Street. This will involve the crane lifting and swinging high above Waymouth Street and a section of King William Street.

Public safety is paramount whenever construction work is carried out so Waymouth Street will be closed to traffic between King William Street and Bentham Street from 6.30pm Friday night until 5pm Sunday night while this work is carried out. When the crane is not lifting, pedestrians can move freely along Waymouth Street. When a lift is in progress, traffic controllers will stop pedestrians and close the northern side of the footpath until the lift is complete.

All traffic on King William Street including trams will be stopped while lifting is in progress, which generally takes a few minutes.

While we appreciate the inconvenience caused by the road closure, our priority and that of the construction company is to ensure the public is kept safe while this work is carried out.
