Council appoints new Deputy Lord Mayor

Councillor Natasha Malani was last night elected unopposed as the new Deputy Lord Mayor of the City of Adelaide.

A North Adelaide resident and Councillor since 2010, Natasha manages her own consultancy, Access India, and is a director and member of various boards and committees.

She succeeds current Deputy Lord Mayor and Councillor, Dr Michael Llewellyn-Smith AM, from 1 February until the end of the 2010-2014 municipal term of office.

“I’m privileged and honoured to be elected by my peers and look forward to continuing to work with the community, as well as supporting the Lord Mayor and my fellow Councillors,” Natasha said.

The Deputy Lord Mayor role is rotated on an annual basis and elected by popular vote of Council members each year.

Councillor Malani, 39, is the youngest female on the City of Adelaide.

She represents the Council on the Capital City Committee, Adelaide Convention Bureau Board, the SA Motor Sport Board and the Premier’s Taxi Council.

Natasha is also the former President and General Manager of the Australia India Business Council.

Born in Adelaide, she is a University of South Australia graduate and Wilderness School old scholar.
